Schools across Edinburgh are joining with the cities official disaster and emergency partner Mercy Corps, who are raising funds to support ongoing relief efforts to save and improve the lives of millions forced to flee their homes. Their work is currently helping nearly 4 million people — in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey — get the food, water, shelter, household supplies and clothing they need. They have also focused on creating safe spaces for children traumatized by conflict.
Currie Primary School are planning to take part in Mercy Corps ‘What I Would Bring’ appeal on Friday 9 October 2015. If you would like your child to take part he / she should wear your own clothes to school on Friday 9 October 2015 and bring a donation to send to Mercy Corps. On this day your child could also bring one item that they would carry with them if they were forced to flee their homes. In class that morning the children and staff will discuss why they chose that item and what it might be like to have to run without a moment’s notice. Remember the item your child brings should be easy to carry and small enough to fit into their pocket. They will need to take care of this precious item all day in school and be careful not to lose it.
