Early Learning and Childcare Parent /Carer Survey-increase in hours.

The Children and Young Peoples Act (2014) requires local authorities to consult every two years on the provision of early learning and childcare.  We consulted two years ago with parents across Edinburgh on the implementation of 600 hours of early learning and childcare. Our nurseries now offer 600 hours to parents and families.

Recent announcements from the Scottish Government state an intention to increase hours available from 600 to 1140 hours for all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible two year olds by 2020. With this in mind, it seemed sensible to include this intention within our survey and to begin to capture the views of parents on how they would access these hours. This will help with future planning.

We have included some examples in the survey of how parents might use these additional hours. The examples given in the survey are possible ways that the hours could be offered in our nurseries. There is no commitment at this time that the proposed models will be available in Edinburgh and in all nurseries. If possible please complete the on line survey using the following link:

Or complete the paper copy and return it to your child`s nursery.

The closing date for completing the survey is Friday, the 6th of May.

We have not asked you to provide your name. This is so that you can express your views freely knowing that they will be anonymous.

A summary of results will be published by the Council in 2016. Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours sincerely
