It was a big day for us in school this morning as Mrs Johnston, Mrs Turnbull (our Digital Learning Leads) and pupils from our Tech Council met with outside assessors from Digital Schools Award Scotland as the final part of the process for us receiving our Digital Schools Award. As you may have gathered from the certificate above Mrs Turnbull, Mrs Johnston and our Tech Council were successful in the process and we are now the very proud owners of a new badge and certificate! It is wonderful to see the work of our staff and pupils receiving national recognition as we strive to embed the use of technology in all of our learning and teaching. The assessor was so impressed with our work, and that of Mrs Johnston and Mrs Turnbull in particular, that he is recommending we become a a mentor school for other schools beginning their Digital Schools Award Scotland journey. Below is a summary of our report;
‘Currie Primary School amply demonstrates a very strong commitment to developing the use of digital learning and technologies to support and enhance learning experiences for all its pupils. It’s quite clear that the school has established digital learning successfully as a natural element across their school community, with a clear, strong desire to continue developing the range and quality of digital experiences. Staff talked confidently, and with enthusiasm, about how and where they were using digital technologies to improve learning and to assist them in their planning and tracking of activities and learner progress. They highlighted the benefits they were noting in the ways their increased use of digital was helping the pupils to connect with organisations and individuals in ways that broaden and enhanced learning. Pupils explained confidently, eloquently and enthusiastically about how they were making use of digital in their daily tasks, and enjoying sharing their skills with others. The school’s Digital Learning Leads provide strong support for the school’s self-evaluation and professional learning processes which were enabling the digital development programme to be well targeted and make good progress. Currie Primary School is clearly committed to embedding digital technologies and ensuring continuous improvement. I believe that Currie Primary School has met the criteria for the Digital Schools Award. I recommend that the school should also be invited to become a mentor school as they have the skills and capacity to do so’.
