Currie Primary is a school on the south west of the city of Edinburgh. We currently have a large nursery and 20 classes in the main school. Our school role is growing and is currently at 529.
Currie Primary was officially opened in 2008 following the amalgamation of Curriehill and Riccarton Primary Schools. We had a new annexe built in 2018 and in August 2021 opened a second annexe. We have 20 classrooms, a Support for Learning room, a large nursery, music/drama room, 2 halls, library, Nurture Hub, a meeting rooms, 4 offices and a staff room. Our large playground is a mixture of grass and tarmac.
We are a very active Eco school having achieved and held our Green flag since2010. We are an accredited RHS school having achieved Level 4, We hold Fairtrade Aware status and are currently working towards becoming a Rights Respecting School.
Currie Primary is a non-denominational school. We do however visit Currie Kirk and welcome their minister to our assemblies throughout the year. Assemblies take place this year on a Friday morning.
At Currie Primary School achievement is as important to us as attainment and we provide our pupils with a very rich and balanced curriculum across all areas. All pupils are encouraged to ‘do their best to be their best’. Pupil voice is very important to us and our pupils are actively involved in deciding topics they are interested in to study and being responsible for how they demonstrate their learning. This session we have a variety of Pupil Voice groups including a Pupil Council , Equalities Council, Rights Respecting Schools Council, Reading Council, Sports Council, sustainability Council and Fairtrade Council.
We value a positive relationship with our parents and fully believe education is a shared responsibility. We use on line Learning Journals to share learning with parents and encourage parents to work with us in a variety of ways – working alongside us in classes, parent appointments, through assemblies, open afternoons/evenings, trips etc. We have an active PTA and Parent Council who meet regularly. They work closely with us to ensure that the school is supported in many ways.
We pride ourselves on the ethos in Currie Primary School. Many visitors have commented on the warm welcome they receive and on the friendly atmosphere in the school. We believe that everyone, whatever their position or job in school, contributes to a very successful team. If you have any questions about our school we will be happy to answer them.
We look forward to welcoming you to Currie Primary School
