We had a lovely evening in school last night at our Annual PTA Beetle Drive. It was great to see so many families come along to support this event. Congratulations to Ruairi for winning stand up bingo, Samuel and his family for winning the Beetle Drive and Mrs Duncan who won the wooden spoon! A big thank you to Mrs Donnachie and our PTA for organising this event.

Gold School Sport Award
We are delighted to let you all know that our school has been awarded a sportscotland Gold School Sport Award for 2019-2022.
Our award confirmation stated:
‘The Gold School Sport Award is recognition of your school’s achievements in putting sport at the heart of your school’s planning, practice and ethos.
The Gold Award also highlights that your school has shown excellent practice across the core areas of the Award and demonstrated an on-going commitment to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in physical education, school sport and leadership and provide clear pathways to life-long participation in sport.’
We would all like to say a huge thank you and well done to Mrs Elliot our PE teacher and the pupils on our Sports Council last session for collating all our evidence and submitting our application for this award. We are looking forward to receiving our flag and flying it from our flag pole.
European Day of Languages
To celebrate “European Day of Languages” which is annually on 26 Sept, the P5s, who are learning Spanish this year, were asked to come to school dressed in the colours of the Spanish flag or in Spanish dresses & bring along anything Spanish, e.g. castanets, Spanish fans, etc.
We had great fun learning about Spanish culture, especially flamenco dancing. Señora Ferguson taught 7 different flamenco movements : rhythmic stamps, clapping, wrist movements, etc. We watched a short video of Spanish children learning flamenco dancing & joined in. Then we choreographed our own little flamenco routines with a partner to the music of “Despacito” (the totally Spanish version, of course)!
¡Estupendo! ¡Fantástico! ¡Muy bien!
Visitors from the Netherlands

We were delighted to welcome 12 educational professionals from the Netherlands to our school today. The group are all part of a study group working towards a masters in education in the Netherlands and the visit was part of their research looking into different approaches to inclusion in different school systems. They spent the morning with us in discussion and visiting classrooms learning about and seeing our good practice before heading off to Currie Community High School and Woodlands Special School to continue learning about the good work happening there.
Bike to school week

This week is Bike to School week. Remember to wear your cycling helmet if you are planning to take part and cycle to school!
Parent Council
Currie Primary Parent Council has been informed of an upcoming workshop that is being arranged by Currie Community High School’s Parent partnership committee. Please find details of the event below
PiP’s next Parent Council meeting will be held 7-9pm Thursday 10th October.
To enable us all to be more aware of current issues relating to the cost of the school day and how it affects 1 in 5 families, Molly Page from Edinburgh Council will lead us in a free workshop. We will have an opportunity to be part of a solution to the problems raised. We’d love to have as many people attend this training and we’d ask that you pre-register by emailing cchspip@gmail.com or follow the link to the Eventbrite ticket online. Spread the word too, it’s a message we want everyone to know about and engage with.

Emotions
Welcome to P4A. We are learning about emotions for our topic. We made emotions and feelings and we wrote how to calm you down and we hung them around school and our classroom.
