Parents4Future Scotland at the Edinburgh City Chambers.

On Monday 17 March our Air Pollution competition winners and some of our Eco Committee went to the Parents4Future Scotland event which was held at the Edinburgh City Chambers.

This event was the culmination of our school’s excellent work on Air Pollution and was a chance to showcase some of it to other school, charities and members of Edinburgh City Council.

The morning opened with a variety of people who spoke on the topic of air pollution and was followed by some time to browse a range of stalls. Our children spoke confidently and passionately about the work carried out across our school. The children were also invited to take part in a range of activities within this context including Eco badge making and making their own smoothie on the smoothie bike. They had to use a lot of energy to power the bike which in turn created energy to power a blender and blend the fruit into a delicious smoothie.

It was a great morning enjoyed by all children, staff and parents.

Eco Committee visit to Currievale Park

On Monday we went to the building site of the new houses in Currievale Park. We went to the building site to see where the houses will be built and to see all the nature and eco-friendly things there. We saw a squirrel up a tree. We took photos and got ideas for our school project.

Eat Them To Defeat Them

Our ‘Eat Them To Defeat Them’ pupil group enjoyed a morning working with our dinner ladies last week making pizza with a range of toppings for us all for lunch and then serving it to us. The pizzas were delicious and very popular! A huge thank you to Miss Blackwood and all of the ladies in our dinner hall for making this happen for our pupils.

Currie Primary School pupils shine in Edinburgh Music Festival Competition.

Last week Zuzanna, Eric and Alan participated in the Edinburgh Competition Music Festival at Greyfriars Kirk and all three did fantastically well. We are so proud of everything they achieved. We know how hard Zuzzanna, Eric and Alan practice and it is great to see their hard work paying off.

Zuzanna competed in the Level 3 category (for ages up to 17) which corresponds to the ABRSM Grade 5-6 level. She was one of 38 participants and earned a Highly Commended certificate, equivalent to a second place in her category. Her performance was marked as Excellent. Zuzanna played Schumann – Kinderszenen, Op. 15, No. 1 “Scenes from Childhood” and Chopin – Waltz in A minor, B. 150, Op. Posth.

Eric and Alan competed in in the Level 2 category (for ages up to 17)  ABRSM Grade 3-4 level. Eric also gained an Excellent  grade and Alan achieved Outstanding, which is the top category and rarely given in the competition. Alan played Beethoven’s Sonata in F major from memory and  Eric played Greig’s Elfentanz  also from memory.

Eat Them to Defeat Them

We are enjoying the ‘Eat Them to Defeat Them’ campaign in our lunch hall right now! The campaign encourages our children to try different fruits and vegetables. The ladies in our dinner hall have been working with a group of pupils to prepare for this event over the last few months and it will go one for weeks.

We are so lucky to have staff that always go to so much trouble and effort to make lots of delicious new recipes and goodies to try. The stall is proving very popular and it is great to see lots of children trying new things!
