Currie Primary 7’s entered an A team and a B team in to the Meadowspot on Thursday evening. What a night, lots of brilliant football played and the boys were all so motivated, energised and in good spirits. Real team camaraderie from start to finish. Both teams won their respective cups! Amazing result, very well deserved and what a way to end primary 7 football! The boys were buzzing as were the parents!
We had such a lovely day in school on Friday celebrating and embracing who we are and sharing our wonderful diverse cultures we are lucky to have ion our school family. The children all chose a workshop to attend from Spinning, Weaving And Dyeing, Chinese Dumpling Making, Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls, Polish Lesson (And Sweets), Turkish Language and Story telling, Chinese Calligraphy, Yoga and traditional games, British Sign language, Amber Craft & Beewax Candle Making, Origami Craft, American Football or Handball, Kabaddi, Brazilian Samba Music, Indian Dance Workshop, Canadian Maple Leaf Art Activity, Wicked Drama, Australian Aboriginal Dot Painting. We finished off with a school sharing assembly where we got to find out a little bit about what everyone had been up to. It was wonderful to see so many people dressing in national costumes or wearing something representing their country.
A huge thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who ran the workshops and to Miss Conry for organising everything for us.
P6 enjoyed a fabulous time at Boanly this week on our EPIC Day, crate building, hill walking, low ropes course, bushcraft, stream scramble and lots more! A great finish to their outdoor learning throughout the year!
We are delighted to have received notification this week that we have achieved recognition from Sports Scotland for the high quality sports curriculum we offer here at Currie Primary School in the form of our Schools Sports Gold Award. This is the top level of award Sports Scotland give to schools in Scotland. At present, there are only 7 other Primaries and 5 High Schools in Edinburgh with this level of award. We achieved this award for the first time back in 2019 and it is fantastic that we have been able to maintain the status at such a high level.
A huge thank you to Mr Donaldson and everyone on our Sports Council for the time and effort that has gone into achieving this award. Events such as Sports Day, Fitness Friday and Inter House Competitions as well as staff attending CPD events that helped gain the award. Other areas like pupils leading learning, the Colinton Tennis Project, visiting clubs like Hearts/Simon Say Dance/Currie Chieftains and a varied Physical Education curriculum all played a key role in receiving Gold.
Well done everyone, a lovely way to end the school year!
This year Primary 4 have been learning about where our food comes from. We have been growing courgette, radish, strawberries , chilli, peas, rhubarb, potatoes and sweetcorn. We have had lots of fun weeding, planting, watering and eating what we have grown. We have also had some problems with the birds eating our seedlings and even escapee Domino the rabbit trying to get a nibble of our potatoes. We would like to thank Michael Muirhead from Westerhailes Community Allotments for giving us lots of help and advice.
A huge congratulations to our amazing dinner ladies who recently received notification that they have won a silver award in a UK wide ‘Eat Them to Defeat Them’ Challenge 2025! Our dinner ladies always go way over and above to provide a fun dinning experience for us all and they put in a huge amount of time, effort and creativity into this challenge, ensuring our ETTDT team of pupils were fully involved throughout the whole campaign. It is so wonderful to see their hard work being acknowledge in a UK wide competition! We can’t wait to see what our lunch ladies come up with next year!
The staff and children at Currie Nursery Class are very proud of one of their pupils and friend, Lina, age 5, who has done something extremely kind and selfless. Lina has donated her hair for best friend Ethan was recently diagnosed with leukaemia and she wanted to do something positive to support him and his family.
Lina has donated 30cm of her hair to the Little Princess Trust (her first ever haircut!) and has been raising money for the local charity LoveOliver who have been so supportive to Ethan’s family. She has received lots of generous donations so far and it is currently sitting at £7650 and increasing! Lina and Ethan will take a BIG cheque to the charity hub on the 1st July.
Well done Lina we are very proud of you! We would also like to send our get well wishes to Ethan.
On Wednesday 12 June 2025 our P7 classes took to the stage with confidence and charm in their end-of-year musical, ‘The Next Big Step’. The performance was a vibrant celebration of talent, teamwork, and transition as our P7 pupils prepare to move on to high school after the summer. The musical followed a lively storyline centred around a group of friends as they celebrated primary school life whilst looking forward to the exciting challenges of moving on to high school, with catchy songs, memories, heartfelt moments, and plenty of humour and tears. As P7 prepare for their next big step in life, this memorable show served as a fitting send-off, full of promise and pride. We are so proud of all of our P7s and can’t wait to hear how they get on at high school after the summer.
My name is Daniel and I am 11 years old. I play ice hockey as a goalie for Murrayfield Juniors Ice Hockey Club and Scotland. I play ice hockey because I like the speed of the sport, the physical hits, team work and having fast hand eye co-ordination.
I started in September 2023. In my first season as goalie I got my first shut out (means o goals conceded), when we beat North Ayr 6-0.I won 4 man of the matches in my first season (18 games) as well as Spirit of the game for my team at the awards night.
In my second season I won quite a lot more man of the matches and was selected by Murrayfield head coach, mark hay, to attend the national development programme and was chosen to play for the Scottish national team U12s in a Tournament vs England. Just last weekend I played a tournament for under 14s. We got to the final and although we did not win I won Most valuable U14s Goalie of the tournament. This was a real honour as it was the coaches of the other teams that voted for me. I also got a silver medal as we came second in the tournament.
Playing for the national squad is a big commitment as we train every month for a whole day with 2 on ice practices, lunch, a gym session and a classroom session on the technical part of the game and also how important nutrition, water and rest is in a sport to fuel your body and prepare to play.
My goal is to play in the elite league (highest league in Great Britain), Czech league, European Hockey or hockey in Canada. My dad was the one who got me into the sport. Dad is still playing and is the captain of Edinburgh Knights. I hope I am still playing when I am my dad’s age!
