We had great fun celebrating World Book Day in school last week with lots of pupils and staff coming to school dressed as characters from books. There was a variety of activities on in school throughout the day to celebrate books and reading – book exchange, drop everything and read every time bell rang, writing stories etc. Some classes enjoyed a visit from a local author children’s author Karen Chilvers and her dog Stanley, the hero from her book ‘Tzu Kingdom’.

This week’s expression of the week or ‘expression de la semaine’ is

‘Je suis désolé’ 

which means I am sorry. As always it would be great if you could encourage the children to use this expression plus our previous expressions of the week at home as well as in school – merci beaucoup!

Thank you to Tesco for the very kind donation of 20 copies of both the ‘Guinness World Book of Records 2017’ and ‘Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Unlock the Weird 2017’ which arrived on World Book Day. We have put copies in the library and in the classrooms so everyone can enjoy these fantastic books. The Guinness World Book of Records is always a favorite with our pupils – watch out for these books coming home over the next few weeks and months!

A little reminder that the voting is now open at Tesco Hermiston Gate for our school playground developments. If you are shopping at Tesco in March and April remember and ask for a token when paying! Thank you everyone who has dropped a token into our school box already – ours is the box on the left!

We have just come from Merchiston castle school from a maths competition. There were 32 different schools competing at the competition and Currie Primary group A came 10^th and Currie Primary group B came 29^th.

To get there we had to take the 45 public bus. When we arrived we went into their dining room and had some juice and we were given our teams for the day. We went to the grand hall and found our table and our teams. At first we got a puzzle sheet and we had to complete it. There were lots of hard questions and lots of easy questions. After a bit an adult came over to our table and we had to do some problem solving. When we were done that task we moved onto the next table and so on. After the morning round Currie Primary school were 3^rd but it all changed in the afternoon. All of the schools went to have lunch and it was very fancy food. We could choose from chicken legs, mushroom soup, fish, pasta and sandwiches.

After lunch we did some more Maths but we did it in pairs. Basically the group you were in for the morning from that group you were spilt into pairs. One pair would go up to an adult and collect a question and they would take it to the other pair. Once the pair completed the question they would take it back up to the adult and collect a question for the other pair. After a while we changed to just getting your own question and that worked much better.

When we had finished the maths the results were announced. Currie Primary A team came in 10^th place. Currie Primary B team were 29^th. We all had a great day. Miss Mackay and Miss Mackay were extremely impressed with how we gave it our all and persevered during the tricky parts.

We are delighted to share the lovely news with everyone that Mrs Pope is expecting her second baby in August 2017, a little brother or sister for Hannah. Mrs Pope is keeping well and is planning to start her maternity leave at the summer holidays.

It was lovely to host the annual Primary School Rotary Quiz for the area here in school this morning. We had 3 teams entered and they all did really well with our Currie Gold Team coming third equal with a team from Ratho Primary. Congratulations to Dean Park Primary whose teams came first and second. Out teams all worked really well together throughout the quiz and it was lovely to be complemented on their good behaviour and manners from the score keepers with each team at the end of the quiz.
