At Currie Primary School 3 P4 classes had a visit from a farmer to talk about how to plant potatoes. We planted the potatoes in an Aldi bag and we are working hard to protect and care for them. They need watering and feeding twice a week. We are entering a RHET competition and there are prizes for the biggest potato and the most potatoes! We are excited to see the potatoes we have grown.
On Thursday 22nd February, P4 went on a visit to Dynamic Earth as part of our Climate topic. When we returned to school, we wrote simile poems about our experience.
Dynamic Earth
The rainforest room was as beautiful as blue eyes sparkling in the light,
As loud as thunder booming across the sky,
As tropical as mangoes, bananas, passion fruit and dragon fruit on a hot summers day,
And as green as a snake slithering through the trees.
The iceberg room was as cold as a freezer in the snow,
As white as a polar bears’ fur, fluffy and snowy,
As wet as the tundra and Arctic sea,
As tall as a giraffe at Edinburgh Zoo.
The volcano room smelt as smoky as a fire, red, orange and yellow,
As shaky as hundreds of wood peckers attacking an oak tree,
It felt as hot as an oven on the sun,
It was as fun as a rollercoaster at Disneyland going upside down.

Dynamic Earth
In the volcano room it was as dark as a shadow underneath my bed,
The lava looked as hot as my dinner fresh out of the oven,
The room was as noisy as a big circus performance,
I could smell the smoke like burnt toast.
The iceberg room was as cold as Mount Everest,
As wet as a puddle on a sad, rainy day,
The iceberg is as huge as a giant,
And as cool as a cucumber.

Dynamic Earth
The volcano room was as dark as a summer night,
As shaky as a rocket blasting off,
As warm as a fire,
The lava was as bright as the sun.
The iceberg was as cold as the Oriam,
As wet as milk,
As slimy as a slug,
The baby polar bear video is as cute as a kitten.

Dynamic Earth
In the iceberg room it was as cold as the Arcitc,
The iceberg was as slimy as a cucumber,
It is as big as a cloud,
The room was as quite as a library.
The volcano room was as dark as midnight,
The lava was as hot as a fiery star up in the sky,
The floor shook like a washing machine,
The lava flowed like the sea and gurgled like a monster in the ocean.
We celebrated Rare Diseases Day in school on Thursday by wearing our brightest colours! The classes all did some work around this subject and watched a story on line.
We are feeling very spring like at school this week as we got our beautiful Spring banners up in the main hall. Pop into the main hall next time you are in school to have a look!
As part of our ongoing commitment to support our Care Experienced and Social Work Supported pupils at Currie Primary School, a group of our pupils have recently been getting arty! Pupils worked with local artist Robert Gillan to create portraits and self portraits using different mediums. They drew, printed and painted pictures of themselves, each other and their pets and favourite animals. We are hoping to share the work in a gallery at school and showcase the artwork to parents, carers and our community. You can see some of the results below. Robert was kind enough to invite us into his studio in the grounds of his wonderful home in Suntrap garden. The pupils loved meeting his animals and exploring the garden. We are very lucky to have made these local connections, which allow our pupils to have some wonderful experiences.
It was very busy at our PTA Bake Sale after school today! Thank you to the PTA for organising and to everyone for supporting by providing cakes or coming along and buying some delicious treats!
We love seeing what everyone is up to outside of school! Please remember to keep sending photos and information into school so we can celebrate with our pupils!
We are enjoying trying a variety of vegetables cooked in different ways just now in our dinner hall as we take part in the city wide initiative ‘Eat them to Defeat Them’, encouraging everyone to try veggies cooked in different ways. This week is carrot week and today the carrot cake proved very popular! Big thank you to our Dinner Ladies for going the extra mile to encourage everyone to take part. It was great to see the ‘Currie kitchen Crew Veggie Venture’ stall so busy today!
