Thank you to everyone for taking part in the School Uniform day today while working at home and sending in these lovely photographs. This event was suggested by another school in Edinburgh and seems to have gone nationwide with lots of children and members of staff all across the country wearing their school uniforms while working at home. A fun twist on the non-uniform days we normally take part in!

Congratulations to Emma who received a Blue Peter Badge this week.

School allocations for P1 and S1 places in August 2020 – We aim to deal with all late placing requests received up to 03/05/20, including second choice applications, and write to you in the last week of May 2020. P6s wrote some poems as part of their home learning and the theme  was ‘Doors’ which seemed appropriate as we are in lockdown, shut behind doors for our own safety and the safety of everyone else. Covid-19 has closed schools, closed shops and temporarily closed some of the things we take for granted, like playing in the park and being with our friends.

P6 previously learned about the author Kit Wright and his poem The Frozen Man and used his poem ‘The Magic Box’ to think about what could be behind a magical door. Where might it lead? What might be hiding behind it? They explored the potential that a door offers as inspiration to write a poem about what someone might see once you open the door….

First, the classes brainstormed their ideas about what might be behind the door. They shared their ideas at one of their team meet sessions to help get them started with the planning stage of being a writer.  The children used their imaginations and thought about the things, people and places they are currently missing.

We have left some school resources  – jotters, writing pencils and coloured pencils in a couple of the local shops in case anyone is running out of supplies and needs more while school is closed – please help yourselves to what you need. Boxes are available at Scotmid, 7 Pentland View and Co-op Food Store 8-9 Corslet Place. We are very grateful to staff at Scotmid and the Co-op for helping us to make supplies available to you. A huge thank you to Mrs Johnson for organising this for us.
