The Christmas parties across school were great fun this week, starting with our P7 and P5/P6 party on Monday afternoon and finishing with our Nursery am class party this morning.
P4 worked really hard to plan and organise a Healthy Living afternoon for their families. Our afternoon was a celebration of all the learning that has taken place over the past six weeks. P4 worked brilliantly in their co-operative groups to organise the different stalls and enjoyed the responsibility of planning what was going to happen at each stall. It was brilliant to look around the room and see children giving massages, making fruit salads, showing their adults how to brush their teeth and wash their hands. Our ‘fruit bowl feedback’ showed that our families had learnt a lot and had enjoyed the different activities. Here are a few final thoughts from P4…
” I liked chopping up the fruit and trying my fruit salad.” Ebtisam
” It was fun teaching my mum some exercises.” Yanis
” My mum loved the massage!” Isabella
“I enjoyed showing my mum how to wash her hands with the soap.” Mufaro
A huge thank you to our dining room staff yesterday who cooked us a delicious Christmas lunch, which we all enjoyed! The dinner hall was lots of fun with Christmas music and cracker jokes! Some of the boys from P4 even helped us clean up at the end, which was a lovely treat!

Well done to everyone in P5, P6 and P7 who played in the Area Strings Christmas Concert at Currie Community High School on Monday evening. Each of the ensembles played a selection of 6 tunes and they all sounded absolutely fantastic. A huge thank you to Mrs Miller our violin instructor for her hard work and enthusiasm in preparing our pupils to participate in such a lovely event.

This time of year can be very hard for many people. At school we have decided to support Destiny Angels who provide Christmas Hampers to people in crisis. Destiny Angels also have a food bank which runs on a Thursday where people are able to come along and receive food support. Destiny Angels are anticipating a desperate need for additional supplies over the festive period, in particular food items and toiletries so that they can support as many people as possible.
Above is a suggested list of items Destiny Angels urgently need. We will be collecting in school for this charity over the next 2 weeks. If you are able to help us with this appeal please send in a donation of something on the list and we will ensure it gets to Destiny Angels in time for Christmas. Many thanks!
With Christmas fast approaching, you will no doubt be thinking about all the greeting cards you need to send. The school eco committee hoped that you could consider sending one class card instead of individual cards to each pupil. This would make a huge difference to the environment and significantly reduce the amount of waste within the school.
If every child receives a card from everyone in their class, that adds up to 14,520 cards sent! Try thinking of alternatives like e-cards and class cards.
After Christmas, please remember to recycle your cards.

A number of schools across Lothian have reported an increase in pupils with vomiting and/or diarrhoea. The symptoms are suggestive of viral gastroenteritis (also known as norovirus or winter vomiting disease) which is known to be currently circulating in the community. It is usually a short lived self-limiting illness from which children and adults recover quickly.
Further information about norovirus and its prevention can be found at norovirus.jpg
To minimise the likelihood of developing norovirus we recommend:

A huge well done to everyone in P2 for their fantastic performances of Bethleben, our Nativity this year! The classes have all worked so hard over the last few weeks to learn the songs and their lines and during their rehearsals to get ready for the performances. It was wonderful to welcome so many of our P2 parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends to school over the two performances. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!
